Pentium 3s

What's the difference between intel pentium and intel celeron?

Hi, my technical knowledge of computers is rubbish, but I want to get a laptop... my sister says that celeron is not as good as pentium, what does she mean by this?

  1. Precisely that. Your sister's right. A friend has got an Celeron CPU in his computer and it is very slow. I could wade through treacle quicker! I have an AMD in mine and it's twice as fast as his with a lower speed.
  2. intel pentuim are alot more powerful than the celron processers. if your being a new pc look out for intel pentuim D rather than pentuim 4 or celron processers as they are now dated and unable to compete with todays applications. pentuim 4 is more powerfuler because its higher clock speed and higher cache speed. celrons are budget processors that like to freeze and lag alot
  3. Celeron processors are the lowest grade processors intel sales. pentium is one slot above it. celerons typically have much lower speed and less cache than any pentium series processor. celerons are ok use for maybe just the internet but no gaming at all with one good luck Pentium D processors are actually much better than the pentium 4 Processors. They are Dual Core. my friend has a Pentium D 930 and he games. Go to intels website and research the Pentium D. it says "dual core processor" under its specs. the fastest Pentium D is 3.6 ghz x2. and it has 4 times the L2 cache as the Pentium 4
  4. Intel Celeron is a half speed cheaper version of an Intel socket 478 processor, limited cache on board slowere clock speeds etc, the Pentium 4 is the full Intel processor. Any which way you look at it though, the AMD processors run circles round Intel processors.more info contact me on my 360 profile email address, Chris
  5. Intel Celerons are "crippled" Pentium Processors. When Intel tests Pentium CPUs, the dead ones are scrapped, but the ones that still work but only "Partially" (limited L2 Cache) are re-labeled as Celerons". Celerons are barely OK for office apps, Email and web surfing, but suck for video editing, CAD and gaming. TIP: Buy the fastest CPU you can afford with the largest "L2 Cache". Look at comparable AMD CPUs, too, they are often cheaper for similar performance.
