Pentium 3s

Is an Intel Pentium 4 3.2Ghz Processor with hyperthreading good enough to run most modern games?

The title says it all. Also would i be able to swap the Intel Pentium 4 3.2Ghz Processor with my current Intel Pentium 4 2.80 GHz processor?

  1. no on the first. maybe on the second depending on your motherboard. the motherboard MUST be able to handle that processor. most games today run best on dual or quad core processors. most games require 2 gigs of RAM or more to run well. Game performance depends heavily on the video card.
  2. tell me what kind of motherboared you have ill let ya know
  3. In theory it should be ok for a few newish games but alot of the newest games are turning to the multiple core processors. Also note that the processor alone doesnt make a good games machine, you have to take into account other factors such as the ammount of RAM and graphics card specs etc too. If you are having difficulty working out whether a particual game work head over to http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest and look for the game you are after. The applet/activex object will work out whether your computer is up for the job.
  4. Depending you VGA dan Ram olso your processor.
  5. With a fast graphics card on low settings it will work just fast enough to play. However, I don't recommend upgrading from a 2.80GHz to a 3.20 GHz if it will not work on a 2.80GHz then the 3.20 GHz won't make a phenomenal difference. In addition there are 4 to 5 of Pentium IV 2.8s and 3.2s all which perform differntly (more cache, faster FSB ect.) Unless you know which 3.20GHz and which motherboard you have, it is hard to know if your computer would handle the swap. Your best bet is to just save up for a new computer. Any 400$ dual core machine at a store with a 100$ Video card upgrade to a RADEON HD3870 or NVIDIA Geforce 8800GTS will play most games out today.
