What is the different between pentium M and Centrino? Which is the latest among these 2? I have a IBM X31 which run on Centrino and a X40 which runs on pentium M. So Pentium M is latest?

I'm repairing an old 478 pin pentium rig for a friend but it keeps switching off, anyone know why? Basically, it's a right antique, but the mainboard and 430W power supply are brand new. I've tried removing/replacing the 2x512Mb RAM modules and graphics card but every time I switch it on, it powers up then just dies after about 5 seconds. I can only place it down to either a dodgy processor, or possibly a short in the case wiring? Any suggestions (apart from telling my mate to upgrade this crap, haha). Cheers.
